Christmas is HERE!!!  With the season comes holiday party’s galore.  Here are a few tips to keep you on track & LOSING weight during this fun & festive holiday season.

*Exercise EVERYDAY – mostly the morning you are headed to a holiday party
*Never go starving – have a small salad with avocado  or a few nuts right before
*Bring the healthiest appetizer of the group – that way you are guaranteed there is something you can eat
*Keep your drinks to 2 max
*Choose alcohol wisely.  Best choices:  Red Wine, Champagne or Vodka Soda w/ Lemon or Lime
*Skip the creamy appetizers, bread basket, carby junk food & dessert
*Choose shrimp cocktail, veggie tray, nuts & chicken kabobs instead
*Do not stand at the food table and socialize.  It is too easy to eat mindlessly
*Make a small plate of food & walk away
*PORTIONS PORTIONS PORTIONS…Do indulge in something “holiday like” but only a small amount.  Curve the craving!
*Family Fitness – get in a fun hike or bike ride right before the party
*MINDSET…If you go to the party with the mindset you are going to have one glass of wine and no sweets – stick to it.  Have a plan is a great tool!
*Don’t let “food pushers” lead you to holiday weight gain…NO thank you is ok!

Healthy Appetizer:

Guacamole with Radish Chips

Makes 4-6 servings
2 bunches of radishes
4 ripe avocados
1 medium red onion (finely chopped)
1 medium ripe tomato (diced)
1 jalapeno pepper (optional)
4 tablespoons cilantro (finely chopped)
2 small limes
salt & pepper

For the radish chips – cut the radish bulbs from their green stalks, rinse & slice.  (not too thin because you want them strong enough to dip with).  Set aside.

For the guac – cut the avocados in half & remove the seeds.  Scoop out the avocado & put in a medium sized bowl.  Squeeze the juice out of the two limes right on top of the avo’s so they stay green.  Mash with a fork until consistency you desire.  Add the chopped onions, jalapeno, cilantro, salt & pepper.  Mix with fork.  Add the diced tomatoes at the very end and mix one last time.

Best served immediately with your radish chips.  ENJOY!
