About Us

Amy Approved Fitness

Amy has been an IFPA certified personal trainer for 20+ years. She grew up in Seward Alaska and is 1 of 4 children. Her childhood was very active (thank you Mom & Dad!) and her passion for movement began very young. She excelled in multiple elementary, junior high and high school sports helping her high school XC running team to two state championships! She went on to run XC and Track at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon.

During her 4 years at Eastern she earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology / Health with a minor in Spanish. She was involved in every intramural and was a school ambassador. She LOVED her 4 years at EOU and continues to have yearly reunions 🙂 In 2001 she moved to the beautiful central coast of California and began her fitness career. Her passion for personal training grew quickly and she landed her first job was at Kennedy Club Fitness in Arroyo Grande. In 2003 she established Amy Approved Fitness where she grew to personal train in several local gyms, personal homes and also in her home studio.

In 2003 she also founded & began her online business ShapeItUp.com, an online fitness superstore, selling different types of fitness equipment all over the world. In 2007 she married the love of her life and in 2013 she gave birth to her sweet daughter Charly 🙂 In 2015 Amy sold ShapeItUp and now focuses on her first priority of being a mom and her personal training business Amy Approved Fitness.

In 2018 Amy developed and opened her own snack line “Amy’s Whole Food Snacks“, baking and selling her products all over the central coast of California. The business grew quickly and again she was forced to balance her priorities of taking care of her family and personal training so after three short years she put the snack line on “hold”. Over the past couple of decades she has completed 7 marathons including the Boston Marathon in 2003 along with numerous half marathons, 10K’s, 5K’s & continues to annually race Mt Marathon in Seward, Alaska. She has also climbed Half Dome in Yosemite National Park 3 times and continues to plan adventures that fill her soul. Amy is most alive on a dirt trail, on top of a mountain and out in nature. She takes her daughter backpacking, loves family camping, visits her family in Alaska each summer and gets on a trail whenever she can!!!

Her knowledge, passion and experience make her a very successful result driven trainer. She has trained people of all ages and abilities and loves to see her clients achieve their health and fitness goals!  Amy puts a huge emphasis on functional strength as strength is key to longevity!!  Nutrition is also KEY when changing a persons lifestyle and from this website you will see Amy’s passion for WHOLE UNPROCESSED foods!!! When she trains her clients she always emphasizes both strength and nutrition as they are both a huge part of their success. Amy currently runs a small group circuit at her home studio in Arroyo Grande, CA  on Monday and Thursday mornings at 5:45 am and 9:00 am. She also trains clients (1 on 1 or 1 on 2-5) in her home studio and also offers in-home training. Her energetic, enthusiastic ability to keep you moving is electric as she has a huge passion for health and helping all those that surround her become the best version of themselves.

Amy’s philosophy is fitness for life.  She encourages her clients to find a movement that they enjoy (and will do) and ROCK it.  Her ultimate goal is help her clients become stronger and more fit with age, to teach them that they can get outside, move, play, and have new adventures at any age.  Each session Amy strives for her clients to leave their session feeling LEAN, FIT, CONFIDENT & STRONG!!  She leads by a strong example and continues to walk the walk and talk the talk!!!
