Summer is HERE and a lot of us have getaways and vacations that will take us out of our normal workout routine. For some this will cause anxiety or worry and for other’s it means “off” mode. Vacation does not mean lazy; instead, it’s a great time to switch up your workout and be active in different ways. Below is an example of a sprint interval / HIIT workout that is short but will challenge you in a new way!!!
1 mile power walk / jog (head to a steep hill)
“Sprint” / power hike up for 30 – 60 seconds (use perceived exertion – BREATHLESS – if you can talk you are not going hard enough))
Walk down
Repeat the sprints for 4-6 hills
————————————
At the bottom of the last hill repeat this 3 times:
Curtsy Squat w/ Oblique Squeeze x 20 OR Skater Lunges w/ Oblique Squeeze x 20
Wide Push-up x 5 / Pike Push-up x 5 / Triceps Push-up x 5
Single Stiff Legged Dead Lift w/ Superman Arm x 10 ea side
Plank Hip Drop x 20
————————————
Walk / jog back to vaca mode!!!
Sprint interval training is the best “bang for your buck”. It is most effective when you get your heart rate to 90-100% max and hold it there for 30 seconds (minimum of 4 rounds). Challenge yourself this summer with an active vacation!!!
